Michael Picucci, Ph.D., M.A.C., is one of the growing number of people today who
have gone from surviving to "thriving." From a childhood of trauma, abandonment,
loss, and continuous uprooting, he reached his teens already addicted to alcohol
and drugs. In 1983, he was diagnosed with a fast-growing lymphoma, now recognized
as an AIDS-classified cancer. As well as being a long-term survivor of HIV, he
has endured the deaths of two life partners, countless friends, and a heart attack
and triple bypass surgery. In struggling to heal himself both physically and spiritually
he has discovered many powerful methods of healing that he now shares with others.
A nationally credentialed Master Addiction Counselor with a doctorate
in The Psychology of Addictions Psychotherapy, Michael discovered a method that
combines psychotherapy, the wisdom of the maturing recovery movement, physiology,
and his own personal healing strategies. The result is a bold new form of healing
for all people called Authentic Process Therapy. It allows deep feelings,
longings for intimacy, and spiritual yearnings to emerge and become integrated,
creating the experience of Complete Recovery or holism.
Last year, three national organizations in collaboration, (The
National Institutes on Health (NIH), The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA),
and The National Association of Alcoholism and Addiction Counselors (NAADAC))
presented Dr. Michael Picucci with the "Outstanding Leadership in Research" award
at NAADAC's National Conference in Denver. This award was for the Heuristic Research
(Moustakas, 1990) he had done to date, the two books he wrote and published on
that research (Complete Recovery: An Expanded Model of Community Healing in
1996 and The Journey Toward Complete Recovery: Reclaiming Your Emotional, Spiritual
& Sexual Wholeness in 1998), and the demonstration of his research in community
building at the grass roots level and training in professional arenas. Michael
is the first to get such a prestigious award for heuristic research. This is important
because this is one of the newer, more interactive community-based research modalities
that interfaces with complexity theories and when integrated with the hard sciences
helps shape this new century. In heuristics, the researcher is part of the research
and reports from the center of it.
Michael's role as the central voice on this website is another
opportunity for him to express from the creative vortex what we are presently
learning about reduce suffering and welcoming fulfillment back into our lives.
Through his workshops, seminars, professional training
program, and writing, Dr. Picucci and this community bring forth
a new and timely vision of joy and personal realization, one which
shows how our most challenging personal hardships can be catalysts
which guide us to and through our "life purpose." This psychospiritual
approach to healing has helped many find their way to fulfillment.
Michael has a private practice in New York City where he facilitates
individuals and couples in this work and is co-founder of The
Institute for Staged Recovery and The Institute for Authentic
Process Healing.
