Dear friend,

We are a group of family and friends of Dayashakti (Sandra Scherer, or Sumati from long ago Kripalu days). We have come together on her behalf to urgently request your financial support to help cover the great personal and healthcare expenses Daya now faces since her diagnosis of breast cancer (Invasive ductile carcinoma with lymph involvement; left side) in May 2002.

As many of you know Daya is passionately and faithfully dedicated to healing through alternative medicine. She is working with detoxification through diet, immune system support through a mega-vitamin regimen, intravenous Ischadore treatments (a homeopathic cancer treatment used in Europe as the leading cancer intervention), intensive meditation/visualization practices, as well as the use of several healers one of whom is a Chinese acupuncturist. Daya has already seen some encouraging results from her treatment as the swelling and pain under her left arm is shrinking. She has recently been told that her tumor is stable and not growing.

Daya would like this to be a time of introspection, slowing down, rest, and focus upon full recovery. Unfortunately, due to the fact that she is her sole income producer, Daya is currently unable to do this. The biggest challenge facing her is that none of her healing modalities is covered by insurance and thus, she finds herself having to work more hours and go into debt in order to meet her basic expenses. Many of the treatment modalities and clinics Daya would like to use she cannot because they are too expensive for her right now.

We, her friends and family, have encouraged Daya to allow us to write this letter to all of you asking for help so she can drastically reduce her work, rest more, focus on her healing and afford the kind of care she needs. None of us know how long this process will take but the estimated cost for health care and living expenses in the next year and a half is $125,000. Please respond as generously as you can.
